Ichiyo Memorial Museum to Hold Kuzushiji Course on 'The Tale of Genji' – Applications Now Closed
The Taito City Ichiyo Memorial Museum will hold an intermediate-level kuzushiji (cursive script) decoding course titled 'Reading The Tale of Genji.' The theme will be the 'Akashi' chapter, with lectures given by Eiko Ueno, Professor Emerita at Jissen Women's University. The course will be held over four sessions on August 22, August 29, September 5, and September 12, 2026 (Reiwa 8), each lasting about two hours starting at 1:30 PM. Capacity is around 20 people, selected by lottery, and the fee is 4,000 yen total, including materials. Applications were accepted by return postcard or online, but the application period closed on July 28, 2026 (Reiwa 8). Admission tickets are scheduled to be sent to selected participants around July 31.
