Free Special Exhibition of a High-Definition Reproduction of Hokusai's Painting "Fuji Den'en Kei-zu (View of Fuji and Rural Fields)" at The Sumida Hokusai Museum

The Sumida Hokusai Museum (2-7-2 Kamezawa, Sumida City) is holding a special exhibition of a high-definition reproduction of Katsushika Hokusai's "Fuji Den'en Kei-zu (View of Fuji and Rural Fields)," created by the Tsuzuri Project. The exhibition runs from Tuesday, June 23, 2026 to Sunday, August 30, 2026, in the 3rd-floor foyer, and admission is free. "Fuji Den'en Kei-zu" is a hand-painted work depicting a magnificent rural landscape with Mt. Fuji seen in the distance, and it is thought to date from around 1831, the same period as his representative woodblock print series "Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji." It was also one of the pieces shown at the very first Hokusai exhibition in history, held in Boston in 1893. What is on display this time is a high-definition reproduction produced by the Tsuzuri Project (officially known as the Cultural Heritage Inheritance Project), based on the original painting held by the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art. It's a chance to casually enjoy a masterpiece by Hokusai that crossed the ocean, right here in its home ground of Sumida.
