Four Neighborhood Associations Hold Joint Mikoshi Procession on Senzoku-dori Shopping Street — Four Portable Shrines Gather at the Asakusa 4-chome Intersection

This year again, a joint mikoshi (portable shrine) procession by four neighborhood associations was held on Senzoku-dori Shopping Street. The mikoshi of the Asakusa 3-chome Higashi Neighborhood Association, the Asakusa Naka Neighborhood Association, the Asakusa Senwa Neighborhood Association, and the Chigusa Neighborhood Association paraded down the street, and together with the passion of the bearers, the event was a huge hit. The highlight this year was the moment when the mikoshi of all four neighborhood associations gathered together at the Asakusa 4-chome intersection. It was a spectacular sight, as if a brand-new act had been added to the program. Many volunteers took part in running the event, including local residents, companies and business partners connected to the shopping street, as well as students from Asakusa High School and the teachers accompanying them. From Asakusa High School alone, around 15 people came together and put their energy to work in various roles, such as taking photographs, running the stage, carrying the tall takahari lanterns, and handing out water. The shopping street association expressed its gratitude to the participants and to everyone in the community, and is calling for a reunion again next year.
