New Acquisitions Miniature Exhibition at the Tobacco & Salt Museum Introduces the World of Master Kobayashi Rekisai

The Tobacco & Salt Museum will hold the special exhibition "New Acquisitions Miniature Exhibition: The Two Nakatas Who Supported Master Kobayashi Rekisai." It runs from Saturday, September 26, 2026, to Sunday, December 20, 2026, in the Special Exhibition Room on the 2nd floor. Kobayashi Rekisai (1884–1959) put his skills in making smoking implements to use and made a name for himself as a miniature craftsman in an era when clothing was shifting from Japanese to Western styles. He is said to have spent a period devoting himself to his craft under Nakata Tonosuke, an antique dealer in Hakone, and materials including works from that time have been newly added to the museum's collection. The exhibition centers on these new acquisitions while also introducing the background of their creation and their connection to the existing "Nakata Minoru Collection." Open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (last admission 4:30 p.m.). Closed on Mondays (open on October 12 and November 23), as well as on October 13 and November 24. Admission is 300 yen for adults and university students, 100 yen for elementary, junior high, and high school students and those aged 65 and over, and free for preschool children.
