The 40th Kappabashi Dougu Matsuri (Kitchenware Festival) Comes to a Successful Close

The 40th Kappabashi Dougu Matsuri, the annual autumn event of Kappabashi Kitchenware Street, has wrapped up for another year. It ran from Tuesday, October 7 to Monday, October 13 (a national holiday), and on the final day, the 13th, the main Dougu Street was completely closed to vehicles and bustled as a pedestrian paradise. On the final day, a brass band parade by Kinryu Elementary School and Matsuba Elementary School set off from the Kikuyabashi intersection. A performance by the wadaiko (Japanese drum) club of Tokyo Metropolitan Hakuo High School and its affiliated junior high school, a presentation by the Matsuba Cheerleading Club CUPIES, and a collaboration of kung fu and drums by the Tokyo Taijiquan Association were among the varied programs that brightened the venue. In addition, the "Kappa Senryu Contest" and the "Character Bento & Character Sweets Contest," which invited entries via Instagram, were also held, with cooking utensils and other prizes to be awarded to the outstanding entries. The merchants' association has expressed its gratitude to the many visitors who came to the street.
