The 40th Kappabashi Dougu Matsuri (Tool Festival) Comes to a Close, Bustling with a Pedestrian Paradise and Parades

The big autumn event of Kappabashi Kitchenware Town, the "40th Kappabashi Dougu Matsuri (Tool Festival)," was held from Tuesday, October 7 through Monday, October 13 (a national holiday), and came to a successful close. The organizer, the Tokyo Kappabashi Shopping Street Promotion Association, has expressed its gratitude to the many visitors who came to the area. On the final day, the 13th, Dougugai-dori (Tool Street) was completely closed to vehicles and turned into a pedestrian paradise. A brass band parade by Kinryu Elementary School and Matsuba Elementary School set off from the Kikuyabashi intersection, and there were also a stage performance by the Japanese drum club of Metropolitan Hakuo High School and its affiliated junior high school, a routine by the Matsuba Cheerleading Club CUPIES, and a collaboration of kung fu and drums by the Tokyo Taijiquan Association. In addition, the "Kappa Senryu Contest" and the "Character Bento / Character Sweets Contest," which invited entries via Instagram, were also held, with both accepting submissions until October 9. Outstanding entries will be awarded cooking tools and other items from the tool street. It made for a week truly befitting "the town of professionals who support professionals."
