Winners Announced for the Senryu Contest at the 40th Kappabashi Tool Festival

Kappabashi Kitchenware Street has announced the results of the senryu (comic haiku) contest held at the 40th Kappabashi Tool Festival. The entries were displayed at the Lifelong Learning Center on October 12 and 13 during the festival, and the winning works were decided by tallying votes from visitors along with votes from the festival's executive committee. The selected works — 12 in all — capture scenes of the tool street and the kitchen, including "Is that a kappa? No, wait, that's my grandpa," "Even a kappa couldn't pick just one — so many plates," and "Looking at the food samples makes my stomach growl." The winners will receive cooking tools and other items that make cooking more fun, provided by member shops of Kappabashi Kitchenware Street. The sponsored prizes are a varied lineup including a Damascus petty knife, an Arita ware plate, a copper tamagoyaki pan, a santoku knife, and a cutlery set, and the shipping of the prizes will serve in place of a formal announcement.
