The 40th Kappabashi Kitchenware Festival: Winning Entries of the Senryu Contest Have Been Decided

From Kappabashi Kitchenware Street comes the announcement of the winning entries in the senryu contest held during the 40th Kappabashi Kitchenware Festival (Kappabashi Dougu Matsuri). The winners were determined by tallying public votes cast at the exhibition held on October 12 and 13 during the festival at the Lifelong Learning Center, together with votes by the festival executive committee. There are 12 winning poems in all. "Is that a kappa? / No, that's just / my grandpa," "The town where I dream / of becoming / a pastry chef," "Looking at the / food samples / makes my stomach growl" — the lineup includes works that capture viewpoints unique to the kitchenware street as well as scenes of family life. The winners will receive prizes sponsored by shops belonging to the association. Damascus petty knives, santoku knives, copper tamagoyaki pans, Arita-ware plates, cutlery sets and other tools that make cooking fun are among the lineup, and the shipment of the prizes will take the place of an announcement of the winners.
