High-Definition Reproduction of Hokusai's Hand-Painted "Flowers and Birds of the Twelve Months" on Special Display at the Sumida Hokusai Museum
The Sumida Hokusai Museum will hold a special exhibition of a high-definition reproduction of Katsushika Hokusai's hand-painted work "Flowers and Birds of the Twelve Months" in the 3rd floor foyer from September 15 to November 23, 2026. The original is housed at the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art, depicting flowers and birds corresponding to each month from January to December, arranged in sequence from right to left. As the work bears no signature, there has been debate over its authorship, but it is now believed to be by Hokusai due to its meticulous depiction. The reproduction was created by Canon's Tsuzuri Project. Admission is free, but an entrance ticket or annual passport is required.
