Sumida Hokusai Museum Marks 10th Anniversary with Special Exhibition Featuring Masterpieces

The Sumida Hokusai Museum (2 Kamezawa, Sumida Ward) began its 10th anniversary special exhibition "Best of the Sumida Hokusai Museum" on September 15. According to an announcement dated September 16, 2026, the exhibition features works by Hokusai and his disciples, including previously unpublished pieces and newly acquired works, displayed across five chapters including hand-painted works and nishiki-e (colored woodblock prints). A highlight is the approximately 7-meter-long hand-painted scroll "Sumida River Views from Both Banks," which returned to Sumida for the first time in about 100 years after being taken overseas during the Meiji era. The exhibition runs through November 23, closed on Mondays. Admission is 1,500 yen for general visitors, among other rates.
