Asakusa Shrine Seeks Full-Time Shinto Priest to Carry On Traditional Culture

Asakusa Shrine is currently recruiting a full-time Shinto priest (shusshi). The role involves serving at festival ceremonies, cleaning the shrine grounds, and preparing for and running festivals such as the Sanja Matsuri, while also helping to pass down traditional culture and take part in local welfare activities. Applicants must be men or women aged 20 or older, a high school graduate or higher, and hold a Shinto priesthood qualification (Chokkai or above) as well as a regular driver's license. After document screening, candidates will go through an interview and written test. The starting base salary is 220,000 yen, with various allowances and bonuses also provided. Those aiming to become a Shinto priest in the future can also apply to serve as a trainee. Announced on September 13, 2026.
