Novel Exhibition "Sumida wa Sumiyou" Held at Kyojima Bookstore — Two Authors Depict the Streets of Sumida

A novel exhibition titled "Sumida wa Sumiyou" (meaning "Sumida Is Good to Live In") is currently being held at "Honya Mono wa Ii You," a bookstore in Kyojima, Sumida Ward. The shop owner and author Kotaro Hayashi and short story writer Sotaro Shirakawa have each written works themed around three areas connected by the ward's circulation bus — the South, Northwest, and Northeast areas — which are on display and for sale. Hayashi, who is from Nagano, and Shirakawa, who is from Ishikawa and now lives in Sumida, each depict the streets of Sumida from different perspectives, making the exhibition a useful reference for walking around the neighborhood. The venue is a 93-year-old row house (nagaya), and a highlight is the shelving made from debris salvaged from houses damaged in the Noto Peninsula earthquake. Open from 12:00 to 18:00, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, running until September 13. Announced on September 9, 2026.
