Poetry Reading Traces the Moon Over the Sumida River Through Literature, Held at Sumida Ward's SIC on September 21

A poetry reading event titled 'Sumida's Hidden Retreat | Waiting for the Moon, Reading the Moon – Tracing the Sumida River Through the Calendar and Words' will be held on September 21 at SIC, an industrial co-creation facility in Kinshi, Sumida Ward. The lecturer is Ms. Machiko Okawa, who teaches at high schools and universities. While reading original works aloud, she will introduce the old lunar calendar, names for the moon, and moon-viewing customs. In the latter half, she will explain scenes of the Sumida River and the moon depicted by Hattori Nankaku, Koda Rohan, Nagai Kafu, and others. The event will also cover views of the Sumida River through different eras, including moon scenery viewed from a boat overlooking Sensoji Temple. The event runs from 14:00 to 16:00, with a capacity of 10 people and a participation fee of 1,000 yen. Applications can be made through a dedicated form. Announced on September 10, 2026.
