"Asakusa Lantern Festival" Held Around Asakusa Shrine, 300 Hand-Painted Lanterns Light Up the Night

The 19th Asakusa Lantern Festival will be held from September 19 to 26 at Asakusa Shrine, Hanayashiki Street, and other locations. Approximately 300 lanterns and andon of various sizes will be displayed at the venue, and this year's theme, "Tsugu" (To Pass On), was decided by Tawara Elementary School. The lantern plates are crafted by the exhibitors themselves or the executive committee, and works by elementary school students will also be on display. This year, three new workshops will be held for the first time, allowing participants to make and take home their own creations. The Instagram photo submission event, "Instagram Award," will also continue. A lighting ceremony will be held on the 19th, and a "greeting" event in traditional Japanese attire will take place on the 22nd. Lighting hours are from sunset until 9:30 PM, and the event will be canceled in case of rain. Announced on September 10, 2026.
