Sensoji Temple Holds "Shimanroku-sennichi" Festival and Hozuki Market, Offering Lightning Protection Charms and Limited Edition Goshuin

Sensoji Temple held its ennichi (festival day) for "Shimanroku-sennichi" (46,000 Days), a day of merit, on July 9th and 10th. Visiting the temple on this day is said to bring merit equivalent to 46,000 days, or approximately 126 years, and has attracted many worshippers since the Edo period. On both days, special "Kaminari Yoke" (Lightning Protection) amulets were offered, inscribed with blessings to ward off dangers from thunder and heavy rain. This year, a special limited-edition goshuin (temple seal) made with blue kirigami (cut paper) was also introduced for Shimanroku-sennichi. The customary "Hozuki Ichi" (Chinese Lantern Plant Market) was also held on the temple grounds, with red and green hozuki plants lined up, creating a lively atmosphere. Announced September 1, 2026.
