Sumida Children's PR Ambassadors Visit Dewanoumi Stable for Morning Practice and Chanko Experience
On August 26th, five "Sumida Children's PR Ambassadors" from Sumida Ward visited Dewanoumi Stable in Ryogoku to watch sumo wrestlers' morning practice. As part of a collaborative project with the Japan Sumo Association, the children watched the practice near the ring for about an hour, then enjoyed curry-flavored chanko hot pot together with the wrestlers, sharing conversation. The children were fascinated by watching the wrestlers carry weights while continuing their shuffling foot movements, as well as seeing the wrestlers cook the meal themselves. They said they felt the appeal of sumo, where technique and creativity can lead to victory regardless of body size. They also showed interest in the training equipment and the stable's facilities, with some children expressing a desire to compete against the wrestlers themselves. Announced on August 27, 2026.
