Terashima Eggplant Harvest Event in Sumida Ward Fosters Cross-Generational Exchange Through Cooking

An event to harvest and enjoy Sumida Ward's traditional vegetable, "Terashima eggplant," was held on August 1 at Tokyo Metropolitan Higashi-Shirahige Park and Umewakabashi Community Hall. In Part 1, 22 participants, including parents and children, learned harvesting techniques and pruning methods in the field. In Part 2, 28 participants took part in a cooking exchange session using the eggplants. Participants formed groups with people they met that day, and it was heartwarming to see strangers open up to one another through cooking. The organizers say that traditional vegetables can serve as a catalyst for connecting people. Announced on August 4, 2026.
